In fact, many of you and your children may know Jared as "Mr. B." or even "Coach B."
Jared is proud to serve his community as an advocate and educator. He serves as the Board Chair for the City of Austin College Student Commission as well as serving on the City of Austin Human Rights Commission. He was awarded Advocate of the Year by the Greater Austin Black Chamber of Commerce in 2019.
Serving all across the district on multiple campuses in multiple capacities with love and passion for all students. So far, Jared has had the honor of serving at the following campuses: the Alternative Learning Center, Bedichek Middle School, Blackshear Elementary School, Campbell Elementary School, Guerrero Thompson Elementary School, Gus Garcia YMLA, Kealing Middle School, LBJ ECHS, LASA, McBee Elementary, Metz Elementary School, Navarro ECHS, Norman Elementary School, Northeast ECHS, Oak Springs Elementary School, Sims Elementary School, T.A. Growing up, Jared attended the following Austin ISD schools, including: Lee Lewis Campbell Elementary School, Kealing Middle School, Pearce Middle School, Gus Garcia Middle School and last but not least, LBJ High School. After graduating high school, Jared did not leave the community in which he loves. Jared is proud to be a first generation traditional high school graduate and college and/or university attendee. He began his college career at Austin Community College, and is now a proud graduating senior at Huston-Tillotson University, Austin's first institution of higher learning and the city's only Historically Black College and University. Pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in the field of Education with a concentration on Social Justice and Cultural Proficiency, Jared says that to him the field of education is all about building authentic and meaningful relationships with both students and caregivers.
In addition to serving in Austin's public education system, Jared has also had the honor of serving as an employee at Pflugerville ISD in the Special Education department. While working with PfISD, Jared had the opportunity of meeting and working with students with intensive behavioral needs. In this position Jared grew an immense amount of passion and love for working with and educating students that have been labeled "at-risk" or "hard-to-work-with".
